Dr. Kirk Potter, DO

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Dr. Kirk Potter is a double board-certified surgeon specializing in both general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery. With nearly two decades of experience serving the Hays community, Dr. Potter is dedicated to helping patients achieve their aesthetic and reconstructive goals through highly individualized, holistic care.

Dr. Potter offers a comprehensive suite of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments designed to improve body contour and restore natural, youthful beauty. Beyond cosmetic enhancements, he brings extensive expertise in complex reconstructive techniques, specializing in breast cancer reconstruction, complicated wound care, extensive burns, and hand trauma. Believing that optimal outcomes require caring for both the mind and body, Dr. Potter integrates proper nutrition and holistic wellness into every patient’s tailored treatment plan.

A Kansas native, Dr. Potter spent his childhood in Colby and graduated from Lewis High School. He earned dual degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Washburn University in Topeka before achieving his medical degree from the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001.

To refine his surgical expertise, Dr. Potter traveled to the East Coast for a rigorous five-year general surgery residency, where he served as Chief Resident. His training spanned some of the most prestigious medical institutions in the country, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Cooper Hospital Trauma Center, Frankford Health System, and Crozer Medical Center. He then completed an extensive two-year fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Philadelphia and New York, again serving as Chief Fellow.

In 2008, Dr. Potter brought his world-class training back to Kansas to be closer to his roots. Outside the operating room, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys camping, fishing, and spending quality time with his wife, Krystal, and their four children.
